Citrus Green Trac Canini Dog Collar

CitrusgreencaninidogcollarI am a sucker for preppy color combinations. There. I said it.

This is a beautiful new release from Canini, a citrus-green collar with cutouts along the sides. The cutouts show the blue textured ribbon underneath. Add to that the pink accents and you have the perfect collar for Muffy. Muffy the dog. Not Muffy your ASB president from high school. But if your ASB president is into that stuff, who am I to judge?

Sea Dogg Buoyant Swim Collar

Seadoggfloatingdogcollar We used to live in a house that had a pool. When we first got Bliss, we put her in the pool to teach her how to get out if she ever fell in. We did this with our previous dog, as did my mom with our family dogs. It never occurred to me that Bliss wouldn't be able to swim. I think the amount of fluff on her butt soaked up water like a sponge, and down she went, panicking all the way.

We never left her alone in the backyard after that.

Enter the Sea Dogg buoyant water collar! It fits around your dog's neck, helps keep dogs afloat and doesn't restrict motion. I'm not sure if Bliss' refined fashion sense would allow her to wear it, but by gosh, It would have given me some peace of mind.

Braided Toggle Dog Collar

Braidedtoggledogcollar Oh, how I love these. I love "different," and these collars are different. They're handmade with hand-dyed braided leather and accented with a little resin dog bone toggle closure. I love the saturated colors and the contrasting toggle. Yay, Mascot!

Polka Dot Dog Raincoat

Polkadotdograincoat Look - it's for Cal Worthington's dog Spot! (Sorry. Southern California thing.) Mod and colorful, this will bring the silver lining out of any raincloud. If this coat actually had a sliver lining, then that analogy would have been a lot better. But an orange lining is good, too.

Ueno Reversible Dog Collar

Uenodogcollar I love this collar for three reasons:

1) The colors and pattern. Look at that! Beautiful blue, beautiful orange.

2) It's reversible! Two looks in one!

3) It's called "Ueno," which is a park in Tokyo. How do I know that? Because when I was studying Japanese, it was always called upon to serve as a location. "Ueno koen wa, doko desu ka?" "Asoko desu." "Soo, desu ne." Therefore, I like saying "Ueno."

Dogs Who Care Dog Collar

Schmitty Schmitty is a little Yorkie living in New York City. She is the official spokesdog for Dogs Who Care, an organization that raises funds to help pets in need after such disasters as Hurricane Katrina. This distinctive blue collar was fashioned after the hugely popular "Livestrong" bracelets made famous by Lance Armstrong. Made from rubberized silicone, it has a quick-release feature that allows it to be resized to fit any pup's neck. All of the proceeds from the sale of this collar go to the Dogs Who Care Network, which includes shelters and rescue organizations all over the country.

With all of the funny, silly, and extravagant things we buy our pups (I'm certainly guilty), it's nice to buy an item that actually gives back.

Gwen Gear Collars & Leashes

Goldengate Here's how it went down. You may want to get a cup of tea or something.

I was walking home this weekend and saw the cute little shop near my house had just put some dog items in the window. I went in and talked to the owner a bit, and explained I was looking for dog items to feature on my website. She said she too was looking for dog items for her shop, and preferred local San Francisco items. So, we exchanged information and continued to chat about the proliferation of luxury dog items on the market.

A group of about four people walked in at that point and said they were looking at the dog things. We laughed and said we were just talking about that. But then I honed in on the bag one of them was carrying... it looked like it was filled with cute things. I said, "Whatcha got there?" She opened the bag to reveal cute, stylish dog collars and leads.

They explained that they were from Gwen Gear, a company devoted to making beautiful, functional collars and leads. They design and hand-make them here in San Francisco, and each design is named for a street or district in our fair city. At this, the shop owner and I exchanged a look, and started laughing. The Gwen Gear folks thought we were nuts.

It seemed like kismet - so now I'm showing Gwen Gear to you. DO NOT TAUNT KISMET.

Jolly Rover Collar

Bam01158 Arrrrrr! Day 3 of Pirate Days brings you this collar featuring a happy-go-lucky "Jolly Rover" design. See what they did there? They used "Rover" instead of "Roger" because "Rover" is an accepted dog name, although I have never personally known a dog named Rover. I'm thinking Roger is a better dog name.

But I digress. Made of durable custom woven nylon, the collar comes in two colors, "Lad" (black with silver and blue skulls), or "Lassie" (pink with with black and silver skulls). See what they did there? "Lassie" is a common dog's name, and also a word that pirates used to describe the female persuasion.

Clever, clever.
